Another day up the lottie yesterday doing building work. Got another bed built and positioned, the lovely John with the greenhouse leant me a sledgehammer to help bed them in a bit. Betty's John also leant me a clamp to help hold the wood as I'm screwing. Very handy and so nice of him.
I've still got a nagging worry whether the wood is treated or not. I'm doing my usual and sticking my fingers in my ears and not worrying about it over much though. The paint is supposed to be plant friendly, so that's going to be good enough for me. If you see me around and I'm glowing bright green, don't bother telling me.
There is just enough room for another bed in between the two I've already positioned, leaving a 13" path either side. Will be a bit cramped but will be managable ... I think.
I sowed some mustard seeds in Bed No. 2 and had a weed around the leeks (decapitated two of them though) and painted loads more boards.
Having spent all day up there from dawn to dusk, reminded me about growing tall things on the north side of short things. The broadies do cast an afternoon shadow over the one remaining courgette, so it will be broadies, peas and beans round the north/west perimeter next year.
The yellow wax beans are really not doing very well, I've got half a mind just to hoik them out when I get Bed No. 4 done today. Now I just need some compost/manure and rather a lot of it.
The SWAA website is coming on a treat so if you're interested in what we're doing, please pay us a visit. http://www.swallotments.co.uk/news.php

Hi Mrs KayP,
Jo here from A4A.
I have been keeping up with your plot blog all year, but didn't realise that you had got a seperate blog for your lottie. I kept wondering when reading the plot blog why you weren't showing us piccies of the lottie!!!
Anyway, I found the link today and have had an enjoyable afternoon catching up on all the posts from when you took it on to the present.
The lottie is looking fab!!! I can't believe how much you have done in such a short time.
It sounds like you have some good lottie neighbours too, and when I got to the post about the lottie meeting I just knew that you would come away with a 'position'!!!
I have only started growing this year, and because of my small garden I am growing in containers (don't know if you remember). I have thoroughly enjoyed this year, and yes, you've guessed it, I'm on the waiting list now for a lottie. There's 30 above me on the list, so I can't see me getting one in the near future, but for now, I'm happy enough with what I'm doing in my containers. In fact, it's amazing what can be grown in containers. When I started out at the beginning of the year I didn't expect to be growing quite so much, but with the inspiration of people like you on A4A I have had a go at lots of things and have been really successful, (one of the things I absolutely love is sweetcorn but didn't think it would be possible to grow in pots. They're now fully grown and just waiting to ripen, I can't wait!!!)
I think mine and hubbies interests in the lottie will be much like your's and your OH's. I have roped my hubby into saying that he will help with the donkey work, but he's told me that all the planting will be down to me (which suits me just fine), he doesn't have any interest in gardening at all, but I think he will enjoy the DIY bit of it. Saying that, I know that I won't be half as industrious as you have been with your raised beds, I'll leave hubby to tackle those!!!
I've had to chuckle at your obsessiveness too. You sound like me, I know that when I do eventually get a lottie it will have to be spick and span.
Anyway, I'm going to check out the SWAA website now.
I'll keep checking in to keep up with the events.
Jo.
Hi Jo, thanks so much for your post. I must admit to feeling a bit feeble this morning but you've just bucked me right up !
Inspiration ?? from me ?? lol I've just taken a bucket load from you and gone back to the beginning and had a bit of a read myself. I was laughing at all the empty ground around the pumpkins. I will take a pic of them when I'm up there today to show you what I'm laughing about.
A helping hand is a definite plus, but try and get a written contract out of your OH. Mine seems to think that the website is all the contribution necessary these days.
If you've got the room to stash things, I'd start skip raiding now for your raised bed edges.
Have you got a link so I can nosy at all your containers ? I've got a packet of sweetcorn for next year, but I'd love to see how they're done in pots !
Look forward to seeing you back here soon.
