Had a couple of days away with bessie mate darn sarf to watch Prince at the O2 arena which was tremendous. We now know how to navigate the Docklands Light Railway so if anyone needs directions - just ask! Oh and don't bother going to Greenwich. Not how I remembered it at all.
Anyway, back to the lottie. Got up there yesterday having spent some time on the plot catching up. Nice Mr Man with the greenhouse told me that I'd been flooded in the morning. Sure enough when I looked down the two post holes (carefully covered with pallets just incase anyone decided to fall in) they were still half full with water.
Still the leeks looked as though they'd enjoyed the experience and Ahmed's Bosnian pumpkin has just exploded. Sadly no fruit growing to speak of though. Cut a couple of rotting ones off and recycled them in the compost bin.
Had a bit of a weed and sure enough there was evidence of the tide line on some of the higher leaves. Managed to cut another bag of courgettes and even some runner beans to take home though.
Thinking about the flooding, I've definitely got to get some raised beds sorted out. Had a wander down the shed on the plot this morning and figured I've got enough cut wood there to make a 4'x4'x1' bed. Going to find some battens and make it into a square foot gardening thingy like good old Mel B suggests (no - not the Spice Girls). 4'x4' didn't really fit into my plan anywhere, but the wood is already cut to that length (well most of it) and rather than mess about too much I will just have to find a way to accommodate it.
Saw one of the chappies building a fence with good old post fix cement and now I've seen one doing it, and what with the flooded holes, I think this is definitely the way to go. So I'm going to dig out the post that's already in and replace it with an 8' one to give me a nice tall fence on that side. I'll save the shorter posts for the front of the lottie. Just need the OH to come and give me a hand. My daughter is up next weekend, I wonder if she'd help. Joke time - aye very good .........
I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed again atm. So much do to. Still it will keep me out of trouble - ha !

Lottie Open Day
Well that was exciting. Got to the lottie about 9.30am to try and get another fence post in by opening time. 2" down was solid crap! Well tarmac to be more specific. So this hole became far bigger than I'd wanted and I've a feeling a bag of postfix will be needed. I know the pros and cons but if I'm there when the post rots and needs replacing, I'll just dig a bigger hole !
Just gone 10am I went over to where the gazebos were being erected and helped get everything ready. Doors opened at 12pm or there abouts.
The weather was reasonably kind, and the rain held off until we were nearly done. Plenty of people came in to have a look and walk about. The jam/jellies/chutneys were well received and sold out completely I think. The fresh veg and baking stall did a roaring trade, and thanks be to all the contributors for kindly donating so much stuff.
There was a general buzz of enthusiasm around the refreshment tent which wasn't all down to the wasps lol.
And we "launched" the new SWAA web-site. There were more internet savvy people that I had expected, who seemed genuinely interest and took a flyer away with the new URL.
This is a project in its embryonic stage, the site is a bit thin, but hopefully over time, it will build up to become a useful resource and on-line meeting place for members and non-members alike.

Erecting the fence
First pole went in last night and jolly sturdy it is too.
First pallet is just wedged there for effect. Off to get some more posts, pallets (need two more) brackets and wood preservative tomorrow.
Going to run chicken wire above the pallets and grow the sweet peas up there next year.
Going to board up underneath the top section of the pallet and stick some flowers in there. A bright idea moment there.

Another bag of goodies for tea
Cut more chard last night, and three more beetroot. There are plenty of gaps in the beds now but nothing quite ready to replace them with.
I was going up just to measure up for a couple of raised beds (I found a pine bed frame at the dump wood skip over the weekend and it was just too good to pass up). However, the weeds round the leeks were saying "pick me, pick me" so I had a bit of a hoe around them which took an a hour. I kept hitting the leeks - oops. Still I hope they'll forgive me.
Pulled nearly all the radishes growing under the Blue Lake bean tee pee. So I'll take those to work today and nibble on them. 6 weeks they took to grow, I suppose I've still got time to so some more. I'm finding it difficult climbing in through the tee pee though so I might just give them a row of their own somewhere. Such a wasted space under the trellises and in the tee pee, but it's such a faff getting to it.
Same with the strawbs. They're sitting under the same netting as the cabbages and swede and I just can't be bothered to take the netting off for about 5 strawbs. Everything will have it's own netting cage next year.
Cut a load more comfrey, put it in a carrier bag and speared it, then chucked it into the water butt (that already has some in a fleece bag). Stinks to high heaven. Don't know when to feed stuff tbh with you. Nothing has needed watering and it slips my mind that I should feed things !
When it rains, I take the lids off the butts to catch more of the precious stuff, but I'd put them back on last night (to protect against evaporation). Was glad I did as it's clear blue sky again this morning.
Will definitely get up there tonight with the tape measure.

Things are sent to try you - aren't they ?
Yesterday loaded up the car with a shed load of bricks, concrete kerbing stones, pallets and bag for the compost heap and ....................... Pollok Park had their family day and wouldn't let me in with the car. I held my tongue (it wasn't jobsworth's fault, it was what he'd been told to do - keep cars away - even though there were no pedestrian's in sight that I could knock over).
So turned the car round, headed home and gave the shed a good old spring clean. Can't sit still for 5 mins. born with ants in my pants I think.
Had a committee meeting today so was up the lottie early with aforementioned car load of gear, unloaded that, loaded the car with weeds in bags, went to the dump, nicked some more bricks and pine from a double bed that had been slung out (with a bit of treatment there's enough there for a good height raised bed) came home, had a cuppa and a fag, got my meeting stuff together, went out the front door .............. left the keys inside. Had to wake up the OH to let me in (soaking wet cos it was pouring), but at least that got him up.
He's been working on a web-site for the lottie and I'd have only had to come back and get him anyway, so it was good timing really.
Of course with the rain today, by the time I got back up to the lottie, the paths had loads of puddles so took off the lids to the butts to catch the water more quickly. The stink coming out of the comfrey but was fairly strong ! Laid out the newly acquired bricks and tried to make some of the seats in the shed dry for the cttee. Had meeting, presented web-site, cut some courgettes and lettuce, came home. It really was tiddling down by this time.
Been working on the web-site ever since. As soon as I've got a URL I'll proudly proclaim it open and post a link to it. It's rather nice, and he's very clever, and I'm admin !!! I've always wanted to be a site admin lmao. I've spent the last few hours sticking links up.
Oh and if anyone is in the Pollok Park area, it's our open day on the 12th August, feel free to pop along. Plot 38 is mine (note to self - must get a sign up) but find the committee hut and you'll find my plot.

and another weekend bit the dust !
Our mate from Swansea dropped in for the first time in a few years, so obviously lottying and blogging took a back seat again .............
Popped up to the lottie tonight though not knowing what I'd find, but was pleasantly surprised. Yeah there were weeds, but I've figured that I'm never going to get them all out so just go for the worst ones.
The weather has been pretty good, when the sun is out, it's very warm, the occasional shower just to keep everything ticking over nicely. Not much water left in the butts though, so will have to take the hoses up sometime soon. Was pretty windy last night but no damage of note.
Everything is growing away merrily and I managed to bring home a carrier bag worth for tea. Going to have to get myself a trug (?).

All the colours of the rainbow ... Chard. Had some for tea tonight and was quite impressed. Mind you a whole bucket load disappeared into about two spoons worth. Good job we liked it though as we've got it from now til the frosts lmao. 
The beetroot is looking good as well, those that mr sluggy hasn't chomped. Have you seen the way a slug can gnaw at a beetroot ???
